People for Libraries is a political action committee whose purpose is to advocate for support and funding of the libraries of Washington County, Oregon and the services they provide through Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS).
40 – 45% of funding for operations of 16 member libraries and WCCLS Central Services comes from a serial levy that must be approved by voters. The current countywide local option levy will expire in June of 2026 and a ballot measure to replace library funding will be on the November 4, 2025 ballot.
Approval of the levy is essential to provide needed funds to:
Maintain open hours at all libraries
Fund children’s reading events, including summer reading and literacy programs for preschoolers
Purchase books and materials that all library users have access to countywide
Purchase and provide digital resources like E-books, audiobooks, magazines and newspapers and streaming videos
Provide reading and learning support, including online access and homework help designed to improve school success for all students in the county
Administer central support and services that link libraries together
Please support the People for Libraries advocacy campaign to ensure that our libraries are able continue to provide these services.
